July 2022 Mom of the Month

ALYSSA W.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY!

I live with Kevin, my partner of 16 years and our five year old son.

WHERE ARE YOU ORIGINALLY FROM?

Colorado

WHAT IS/WAS YOUR CAREER?

I'm a Senior Training and Development Specialist in Human Resources at the University of Colorado Boulder. I get to train people (in person and virtually) on leadership, management, communication and more! I love training and helping others learn to help them solve their most pressing leadership challenges.

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT FIT4MOM AND HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A MEMBER?

I found out about FIT4MOM through another friend who attended. I started when my son was 6 months old. I have been attending on and off for the past 4 years.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT FIT4MOM?

The connection. We're all busy but class feels like a special container of time to come together. My future self is always thankful I got the movement in, my soul is better for connecting with others and getting outside!

WHAT HAS INSPIRED YOU THE MOST SINCE BEING A PART OF FIT4MOM?

The commitment of moms to keep showing up for themselves and their families amidst the busy and sometimes hard moments in life.

WHAT IS SOMETHING THAT HAS SURPRISED YOU ABOUT MOTHERHOOD?

How funny my kid is. I love his developing sense of humor, when he laughs at something funny in an audio book or really finds something funny. I love exploring his world through what he finds humor in and it reminds me to stay light hearted as well.

WHAT ARE 3 OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS?

1. Spending quality time with friends in good and meaningful conversation 2. My garden, flowers and plants 3. Learning something new

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST MOMMY MOMENT SO FAR?

The most recent example was watching my son at his little Pre-K graduation. I underestimated how proud I would feel. My pride wasn't related to any academic accomplishments but it was related to watching how much confidence and excitement he had for his class, to sing his song and show us around the school. He said it was "the best day ever" and that he "hoped we (mom and dad) would come to everyone of his graduations." We said, "you bet we'll be at every graduation and celebration that we can!"

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE A NEW MOTHER?

Find small (or big) ways, that feel right for you, to ask for help when you can.
