May 2022 Mom of the Month

SARA W.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY!

My husband, Josh, and I met in college through a mutual friend. We have been together for almost 20 years and married for 9 years this month. Our son, Isaac, recently turned 6. We share our home with three crazy cats.

WHERE ARE YOU ORIGINALLY FROM?

Born and raised in Indiana, then went to college in Ohio.

WHAT IS/WAS YOUR CAREER?

Civil engineer for an environmental consulting company. I went back to work part-time when Isaac was about 10 months old.

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT FIT4MOM AND HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A MEMBER?

I went to my first Stroller Strides class during an Avista New Mom's Group in 2016 when Isaac was 6 months old. I didn't actually start regularly attending Stroller Strides/Barre classes until I went back to work. Go figure. I've done Stroller Strides/Barre/360 classes, Run Club, and Body Well over the years.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT FIT4MOM?

Community. No one cares if you haven't showered in a couple of days or your child is crying and having a rough day. We have all been there! We're just happy to see our friends and be together!

WHAT HAS INSPIRED YOU THE MOST SINCE BEING A PART OF FIT4MOM?

That other moms will be there for you and your kiddos. It doesn't matter if you know them well or not. Whether it is watching another mom's kiddo while she uses the bathroom to taking a meal to another when she needs a little help.

WHAT IS SOMETHING THAT HAS SURPRISED YOU ABOUT MOTHERHOOD?

How you can be woken in the middle of the night with a child emergency (i.e., throwing up) and immediately be alert and take action.

WHAT ARE 3 OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS?

Reading, cooking, and spending time outside with family and friends.

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST MOMMY MOMENT SO FAR?

How much Isaac learns and changes on a daily basis! Sometimes it is being surprised he can read a sign, while other times it is him just knowing I'm having a hard day and gives a huge hug.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE A NEW MOTHER?

You are doing great! Some days are harder than others, and that's okay. It is also okay to ask for help and take time for yourself!

ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO ADD?

This is a wonderful and supportive group of women. Just showing up can be hard, but it is so rewarding when you do. Workout and adult conversation for you, socialization and energy release for kids - win win!
